How a Call Unfolds
Large-scale work starts with a site walk rather than a dispatch. The call usually comes from an agency project manager, an environmental consultant, a general contractor, or a property owner facing a cleanup order: a fuel system release that spread under a yard, a pipeline strike, a decades-old stain found during redevelopment, or a spill that turned out to be much larger than the first response could handle. We look at the site, the consultant's data if there is any, access for haul trucks, and where clean material will be stockpiled, then scope crew, equipment, and a schedule.
Once mobilized, the job runs like a construction project with a waste stream attached. Excavation follows the consultant's or agency's work plan, soil is staged or loaded directly to end-dump and haul trucks, and each load is tracked against its profile and destination. Where soil can be screened and separated, clean material is kept apart to reduce disposal tonnage. Dust, stormwater, and trackout controls are maintained daily, because a long job in the Inland Empire wind will draw complaints if they are not. Confirmation sampling happens as each area reaches its target depth.
Backfill, compaction, and surface restoration close the field work, and depending on volume the project may run a month or many months. The final deliverable is a disposal record set that matches the consultant's closure report: manifests reconciled to weight tickets, sample locations, and photographs. A large excavation mobilizes excavators sized to the depth, loaders, end-dump and haul trucks on a rotation, water for dust control, plastic and berms for stockpiles, and a supervisor who stays for the duration. The people around the work are different from an emergency scene: the customer's environmental consultant directing sampling, an agency case manager making periodic visits, a general contractor if the cleanup is part of a larger build, and sometimes an air district inspector. The crew works to the consultant's plan, keeps a daily log of loads and activity, and flags anything unexpected, such as an unknown tank or a second product, before it becomes a change order.
Documentation You Receive
The customer receives a daily log for the duration of the job listing equipment, personnel, loads hauled, and any observations, plus a running load count reconciled against the facility's weight tickets. Soil is characterized by laboratory analysis and profiled to one or more permitted facilities, since a single site often produces more than one stream. Every load leaves under a manifest or bill of lading, and the signed returns are compiled into a disposal summary with total tonnage by facility. Confirmation sample results and a figure of sample locations are provided to the consultant for the closure report. The package is built so that the consultant, the agency, and the owner's lender or buyer can each pull what they need from it.

Do we need an environmental consultant, or can you do the whole thing?
For a regulated cleanup the agency will usually expect a consultant to prepare the work plan and closure report, and we work as the excavation and disposal contractor under that plan. If you do not have one, we can tell you what the agency is likely to expect and work alongside whoever you retain. On a smaller job with no agency case, we can often scope it directly.
How is a job this size priced?
Excavation and hauling are typically priced by the day or by the ton, and disposal by the ton at the facility's rate for that waste profile. Soil that tests cleaner costs less to dispose of, which is why screening and segregation pay for themselves. We provide an estimate after the site walk and refine it as sampling data comes in.
How much disruption to the rest of the site?
We plan the haul route, staging, and hours around the site's operation, and on an active yard or business that often means working early, in phases, or fencing the excavation so the rest of the property keeps running. Dust and trackout controls are part of the daily routine, not an afterthought.
What if you find something unexpected in the ground?
It happens: an old tank, a drain line, a second product, more volume than the borings suggested. The crew stops in that area, documents it, and notifies the consultant and the customer before proceeding, so the change is agreed rather than discovered on the invoice.
