Emergency Spill Response in Chino

Chino sits at the southwestern corner of San Bernardino County, where the dairy preserve is turning into warehouses and the 60, the 71, and Euclid Avenue carry the trucks that serve them. It is the far end of SpillSafe Environmental's home range, roughly 40 to 50 minutes from Mentone on the I-10 and the 60 or the 71, and it produces a mix of incidents unlike anywhere else we work.

The 60 crosses the north end of Chino, with the 71 running south from it along the western edge toward Corona and the 91. Euclid Avenue, which is State Route 83, runs north to south through the middle of the city and carries a great deal of truck traffic to and from the new logistics parks in the preserve. Chino Airport and the industrial blocks around Merrill Avenue and Kimball Avenue sit in the south. Chino Creek and the other flood control channels run through to the Prado Basin, so drainage from most of the city heads that way.

The dairy-to-warehouse conversion is the story here. Active dairies still operate beside new distribution centers, and the incidents range from diesel and hydraulic releases at construction sites and truck yards to fuel islands, dock spills, and equipment hydraulics at the finished warehouses, with agricultural fuel and chemical storage on properties in transition. The 60 and the 71 contribute saddle tanks, rollovers, and cargo. Soil in the preserve is deep and permeable, and a release that leaves pavement moves into it quickly, which puts excavation on the table early.

Mentone to Chino runs roughly 40 to 50 minutes off-peak. Crews arrive to contain and recover: block drains, boom or berm the release, vacuum and absorb, tap or transfer fuel from compromised tanks, and steam clean pavement with full recovery. Where product has reached soil, emergency excavation follows it until clean material is exposed. Construction and agricultural sites get the same sequence as a finished warehouse, and everything recovered leaves under a manifest for approved disposal at a permitted facility.
