Corona is the far western edge of what SpillSafe Environmental considers its home range, where the 91 squeezes into Santa Ana Canyon toward Orange County and the I-15 heads south through Temescal Canyon. Both routes are chokepoints for freight, and both produce incidents that a coast-based responder reaches slowly. The 91/15 interchange is the center of Corona's incident map. West of it, the 91 narrows through the canyon along the Santa Ana River, with Green River Road the last exit before the county line and a long stretch with no room to pull over. South of it, the 15 climbs into Temescal Canyon past the McKinley Street and Cajalco Road exits toward Lake Elsinore. Corona's industrial base sits along the 91 corridor around Pomona Road, Railroad Street, and Magnolia Avenue, and along the 15 near Dos Lagos, with rail running beside the freeway.
Canyon incidents are the hard ones: a rig down on the 91 in Santa Ana Canyon blocks a lane with no shoulder, and any release runs straight toward the river or the Prado Basin behind it. Elsewhere in Corona the calls are more conventional. Saddle tanks and rollovers on the 15, cargo on the interchange ramps, hydraulic and coolant releases, and yard spills in the industrial parks: fuel islands, drums, equipment hydraulics. Temescal Canyon adds quarry and aggregate truck traffic, and the grade south of Corona works brakes and engines hard.
Mentone to Corona runs roughly 40 to 50 minutes off-peak. Crews arrive ready to work a shoulderless scene: protect the drains and the river side first, contain, then recover product with vacuum and absorbent. Compromised fuel tanks get tapped and transferred before the vehicle is moved. Impacted soil on the canyon slopes or in a yard comes out, and pavement gets steam cleaned with full recovery. Everything recovered leaves under a manifest for approved disposal, and the lane reopens as soon as CHP is satisfied it is clean.
