Diesel Spill Cleanup in Temescal Valley

A roadside response with changing access

SpillSafe Environmental responded to a diesel release in Temescal Valley, California. The response involved collecting pooled water and diesel, cleaning affected gutters and recovering wash water during surface cleaning.

Before work proceeded, the project manager discussed the cleanup scope and expectations with the county environmental representative and coordinated with on-site CHP about the work and lane closure. Access changed during the response: removal of the wrecked tractor-trailer by the towing company allowed the crew to reach the remaining contaminated gutter.

Collecting material before surface cleaning

The field report describes the crew transferring pooled water and diesel into barrels and clearing dirt and debris from the gutters. Solid absorbent was applied to the initial spill, swept up and placed in barrels.

The crew then set up a recovery vacuum, applied degreaser and surface-cleaned the affected area while collecting the wash water. The report records emptying the Mini Guzzler vacuum into barrels before the team returned to its terminals to restock equipment.

The documented work

The response record documents liquid collection, absorbent pickup, gutter preparation and surface cleaning with wash-water recovery. The accompanying daily work report lists a Mini Guzzler, pressure washer, lighting and seven drums of waste-disposal service, together with waste-profile and manifest charges.

The seven-drum entry describes the billed disposal quantity. It is not a measurement of the original diesel release. The available records do not establish an agency closure decision or a lane-reopening time.
